What Costa Rica Solar Solutions has learned from installing LG Batteries with the StorEdge system
Costa Rica Solar Solutions (CRSS) has been a leader in the Central America and Costa Rica Solar Energy Market for the past 11 years. CRSS was the first to install a grid tied system in Costa Rica for Solar Energy and Energy Storage. CRSS was the first to install SolarEdge systems in Costa Rica and now CRSS is the first to install LG Resue Lithium Ion Batteries in Latin America.
Many years ago, we started installing battery backup systems using the traditional old lead acid batteries. They were not eye pleasing and the system had to be over sized because of the batteries limited capabilities. The system worked but needed normal battery maintenance and had a lot of limitations.
Energy Savings Configuration
When we installed the first LG battery we knew this is the future. LG reliability coupled with SolarEdge technology showed us that this is the solution for our clients that wanted to be less dependent on the grid. After testing the system, we found out that you can create energy profiles that are custom designed for the client’s energy needs. Depending on the lifestyle of the client, the demand is different and the SolarEdge system can be programed to eject energy during times of demand. Battery backup is also a high demand item for the LG battery. You can program how much KW that you want to save for battery backup and once the battery is discharged to that level, the system will switch to grid usage.

What we have learned about LG batteries
Limitations,
- 5,000 watts or 5kW peak
- 40-amp breaker
- Can’t backup older pumps, on demand water heaters, humidifiers
- 115 degrees ambient temperature
Ease of installation and problems with installation.
- If the project is pre-wired such and prepped for the LG installation time can be greatly reduced.
- Either client’s electrician or CRSS electrician will need to create a sub panel for any item that is over the 5k limit or 45-amp breaker.
System can be set up for whole house back up if all items (air conditioners, pool pumps hot water heaters are energy efficient and meet the limitation
