Pool Pumps the silent energy cancer!
Many people have asked us what consumes the most energy in the house. With SolarEdge systems we can monitor your total consumption as well as the solar production, we can actually determine what consumes the most energy in the house. We even have another product called the curb which monitors each individual circuit.
Pool pumps and air conditioners are usually at the top of that list. However, advancements in pumps have now changed so that if you have a variable speed pool pump it reduces your energy consumption considerably. Name brand system such as Pentair offers variable speed pump and timing your pump to be on during solar hours will increase your self consumption.
Here is an example of a pool pump it was turned on all night because the timer was malfunctioning. The pool pump is not a variable speed pump and the pool is a medium sized pool.
4 bedroom/3 bathroom home with pool, 4 air conditioners, not a rental.
Price per kWh is .27 cents.
This is a comparison of when the pump was on and then turned off. Compare the difference of import from the grid.
Here is the example of the monthly view. See how drastic the change of turning off the pump. This saves thousands of dollars a year.
Just by changing your pool pump to the solar hour can save you money but also using variable speed pumps vs non variable speed pumps makes a difference.
Another option is using solar DC pumps for your day to day operation of the pool pump. This means your pump will run only during the day and is NOT connected to your house or your solar system.
